The year is almost at an end, and I am sure many of you are already traveling and planning awesome places to travel in the coming year. Before I quit my job a month back, I read a lot of travel blogs and many of them very inspiring. Here are some that became my reading favorites:
Matthew Kepnes, popularly known as Nomadic Matt is the role model of modern day blogging success stories. He has been traveling and blogging longer than most others; in fact, he’s one of the genuine travel bloggers out there. His travel site features budget travel tips, destination reviews and personal stories. His consistent efforts over the years has cemented his site generating a sufficient cash-flow while saving and spending 10-15 hours a week to keep up his blog, leaving him free to enjoy his travels and work on other self-publishing projects.
Matthew Karsten branded himself as the Expert Vagabond and certainly for good reasons quit his full-time job to pursue adventure travel writing, photography, stories, videos and tips. He has got one of the most well read adventure travel blogs today.
Kate McCulley, better known as Adventurous Kate, is a fellow Bostonian with a sharp wit and great sense of humor. She has become one of the leading social media influencers in the field of solo and independent travel for women. Her blog is quite funny, she built it from scratch and turned it into one of the most trafficked travel blogs in the world.
Alexandra Baackes is a New York native, a full-time, kickboxing, scuba diving digital nomad. Her Alex in Wanderland travel blog is a site where you’ll find fascinating stories and useful advice. As a passionate traveler and prolific writer, Alex has turned her travel blog into one of the top rated travel sites in the world and she is probably one of the most active bloggers I have known, publishing new posts almost daily even while she’s traveling. I struggle so much even to post once or twice a week, I don’t know how she does it.
Kiersten Rich from California is the founder of The Blonde Abroad, where she documents her adventures around the world and her efforts to support international charitable organizations. She does her travel based on fashion and photography at semi-luxury standards. She’s got an awesome website, a full fledge team to manage it and even provides short term blogging courses and wordpress development services. Kiersten had a career in corporate finance, but it just wasn’t right and, in time, she quit and pursued her desire to see the world.
Jodi Ettenberg is a former lawyer who quit her job in 2008 to see the world. At first she thought of rejoining her job after a year and now its almost six years she’s roaming around the world. Jodi is a popular solo blogger and her blog is mainly concentrating on photo essays, culture, delicious local food, and her ‘adventures and misadventures’. How she earn for her travel and survival as a solo traveler? The answer is she is doing social media consulting work, acts as a brand ambassador for G Adventures, freelance writing for magazines and websites. She skips the normal topics and instead focuses more on the culture of a place.
Amanda Williams is the girl behind the highly popular travel blog, ‘A Dangerous Business, one of the interesting aspects of the blog is that Amanda does keep a running bucket list of things that she would like to do, and it is remarkable that she has already done so many things during her travels. It is this spirit of adventure and of embracing new things that also helps to make the blog such an interesting one to follow. The many different destinations featured on her blog makes it a good source of information, all of which are approached with a good sense of humor and enthusiasm.
Stephanie Yoder from Washington is the Chief editor of Twenty-Something travel blog who left her job in 2010 to travel the world. She has since traveled and lived in countries across Asia, South America, and Europe. Through her adventures, readers are able to escape with Stephanie on her travel inspirations, travel tips and destination based posts focused on food.
Rachel Jones is the writer of the blog Hippie in Heels, the go-to website for all things India related ever since Rachel started living there. She worked as a travel nurse until she moved to India after a backpacking trip where she met her boyfriend. Rachel is a contradiction: part girly girl, part dirty hippie.
Louis is a YouTube film-maker and adventurer who makes a daily vlog of his life. Yes! Every day, from the morning ’till night, Louis is filming all the adventures he goes on and putting them on YouTube for us to watch. This obviously requires a lot of dedication and he isn’t stopping any time soon (as far as I know). Not only does it take a lot of dedication, but it is very hard to make your daily life interesting. He enjoys traveling the world with friends, having fun and inspiring others!
